Lee Association of Remarkable Citizens (LARC) announces Ian Norris has been named Director of Development and Communications. Established in 1954, LARC Inc. is a training center for success that provides support services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.

Norris has more than 12 years of experience in operations, customer service, processing, and leadership. In addition, he is a trained chef, certified in Culinary RX & Plant-Based Cooking, Social Development Strategy, 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, and BotVin Life Skills Training.

“Ian has a wealth of experience in building relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders and community partners. His experience in the culinary field is also a great fit for our LAB Learn, Achieve, Become) program that focuses on skills for work and independent living,” said Angela Katz, LARC Executive Director. “He will continue to grow LARC’s 67-year legacy to provide more opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.”

Before joining LARC, Norris worked as Customer and Partner Relations Manager for The Green Thumb Initiative, a research-based non-profit behavioral prevention program developing and providing community-centered wellness and nutritional models. He also worked for Starpoint, an organization providing essential services to adults with cognitive and physical challenges, teaching gardening and culinary skills. Norris has a passion for using food as a catalyst for better health and providing opportunities for learning through food. He earned his associate degree in graphic design.

“Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities should have the opportunity to maximize their independence and live healthy, fulfilling lives,” said Norris. “I am excited to be a part of such a talented team and to collaborate with community partners to build on LARC’s success.”

The mission of LARC is to empower and support individuals with disabilities and their families to achieve their full potential. Serving more than 300 individuals annually, ranging in ages from 14 to 78, LARC offers vocational training, community residential services, youth programs, and other community inclusion services.
