LARC Executive Director Angela Katz Named Vice Chair of The Arc of Florida

LARC (Lee Association for Remarkable Citizens) is pleased to announce that Executive Director Angela Katz has been named Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of The Arc of Florida, a leading statewide advocacy organization representing local Arc chapters and other organizations supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

The Arc of Florida works with legislators, state agencies, and community partners to advance public policy, strengthen services and supports, and promote inclusion and opportunity for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout the state.

As Vice Chair, Katz will help guide the organization’s strategic direction, establish statewide advocacy priorities, and engage with policymakers and state leaders on issues impacting individuals with disabilities, their families, and the organizations that support them.

“Angela is a visionary leader with an authentic passion for improving the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. What makes her especially valuable is her ability to pair that vision with meaningful action,” said Kari Bates, Board Chair of The Arc of Florida. “Her strategic thinking, commitment to our mission, and ability to turn ideas into results will be tremendous assets as we advocate for individuals and families across Florida.”

“We are thrilled to welcome Angela Katz as Vice Chair of The Arc of Florida’s Board of Directors,” said Summer J. Pfeiffer, President and CEO of The Arc of Florida. “Angela brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the challenges facing individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, their families, and the organizations that serve them. Her firsthand experience leading LARC will bring an important perspective to our statewide advocacy efforts as we work with policymakers to strengthen services, expand opportunities, and ensure individuals with disabilities have the support they need to live fulfilling lives.”

As Executive Director of LARC, Katz has led significant initiatives to expand opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Southwest Florida. Under her leadership, LARC has strengthened its vocational training and community employment programs, expanded partnerships with local businesses and advanced plans for a major campus expansion.

The approximately $5.7 million expansion includes a new 8,000-square-foot facility designed to serve individuals with significant support needs while also functioning as Southwest Florida’s first specialized hurricane shelter for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Plans also include a third residential group home, expanding LARC’s ability to provide safe, supportive housing.

Katz also helped secure ownership of LARC’s 5.6-acre Fort Myers campus after decades of leasing the property. The achievement provides long-term stability and positions the organization for continued growth.

“I am honored to serve as Vice Chair of The Arc of Florida and to work alongside dedicated advocates from across the state,” said Katz. “The challenges facing individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families require collaboration, strong advocacy, and innovative solutions. I look forward to helping advance policies and programs that create meaningful opportunities for greater independence, inclusion, and quality of life.”

Katz’s appointment reflects LARC’s growing role in disability advocacy and its commitment to improving opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, both locally and throughout Florida.
