Lee Association for Remarkable Citizens (LARC), an organization serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, received a donation of 10,000 masks and 14,000 gloves from Bank of America.
“Since the start of the coronavirus, personal protective equipment (PPE) supplies have been low, and costs have been high,” said Angela Katz, LARC’s executive director. “This makes it challenging for non-profit agencies like us to secure what is required to keep our clients, team, and volunteers safe. Thank you, Bank of America, for remaining focused on addressing the impact of this crisis and for continuing to support us as we provide programs and services to help individuals with disabilities achieve.”
This donation is part of a nationwide effort by Bank of America to immediately distribute nearly four million PPE masks to communities disproportionately impacted by the coronavirus, including communities of color. It is connected to its $1 billion, four-year commitment of additional support to help local communities address economic and racial inequality accelerated by a global pandemic. This is in addition to the four million masks the company donated earlier this year in cities across the country.
Since the start of the pandemic, LARC’s programs and services have continued to thrive but require the vital PPE to provide them in person.
Established in 1954, LARC is a training center for success for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. LARC serves more than 400 individuals annually, and participants range in age from 14 to 78. In addition, LARC offers vocational training, community residential services, and a vast array of other state-of-the-art community inclusion services on a full-time, year-round basis. LARC’s main campus is located at 2570 Hanson Street, Fort Myers. LARC also operates two Residential Group Homes located in Cape Coral and North Fort Myers.
